Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Hello,

The staff in Year 3 would like to take this opportunity to say hello and a big welcome to the year group. We have lots of exciting things planned for the year and hope your children will share these experiences with you on a regular basis.

Year 3 Team:

Miss Williams (3EW) Miss Morris (3EM) are the teachers in Year 3 with Miss Sinclair, Miss Smith, Miss Thomas, Miss Tomkins and Miss Cotton supporting both classes throughout the week. PPA cover will be taken by Miss Smith and Miss Hughes.

Our topics this year are:

AUTUMN (History): Tudors - How did the reign of Henry VIII affect Ledbury and Britain?

SPRING (Geography): How does the rainforest affect us and what can we do to protect it?

SUMMER (Science): Does the world need ice?

Homework

You will receive a sheet outlining the spellings to cover each week. We will have a times table quiz and a spelling quiz every week on a Thursday to monitor your child's progress.

Reading

Pupils will be given a planner at the start of the year that will allow you to record each time you listen to your child read. In order for your child to make the recommended progress for their age, we suggest that you read with them at least 5 times a week.

We encourage you to share the reading so that you are able to model fluency and diction as well as listening to your child and supporting them when decoding difficult words or learning new vocabulary.

PE lessons will take place on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit for the day. We will be having our sessions outside so please encourage children to wrap up warm whilst the days are colder.
