Hello and a warm welcome to Year 5!
The Year 5 team would like to take this opportunity to say a big hello and extend a very warm welcome to both children and families as we begin this exciting stage of the journey through primary school. This year promises to be filled with new challenges, engaging topics, and plenty of opportunities for the children to grow both academically and personally.
We have a wide range of exciting learning experiences planned, from developing key skills in maths and English to exploring fascinating topics across science, history, geography, and the arts. Along the way, we will also encourage creativity, teamwork, and resilience, helping the children to build confidence and independence in their learning.
We hope that your children will come home eager to share what they’ve been discovering and achieving in class. We also value the strong partnership between home and school, and we look forward to working together with you to ensure every child has a happy, successful, and memorable year in Year 5.
The Year 5 Team:
Mr Copestake (5DC) Miss Kench (5RK)
Welcome to Year 5!
This year, our topic focus is Water, which we will be exploring across a range of subjects and themes:
Autumn Term – The Past: Ancient Civilisations (main focus: History)
Spring Term – The Present: Water, Water Everywhere (main focus: Geography)
Summer Term – The Future: Journey into Space (main focus: Science)
Each theme will allow the children to dive deeper into their learning, make meaningful connections across subjects, and develop key skills in reading, writing, maths, and beyond.
P.E. takes place every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. Children should come to school dressed in full P.E. kit, including a t-shirt, shorts, and trainers suitable for outdoor sports. During the colder months, a tracksuit may be worn to keep warm.
Spellings will be tested every Thursday.
Times Tables are practised daily in school to support confidence and fluency in maths.
If you would like to speak with your child’s class teacher, you are very welcome to catch us at the school gate after the day, or alternatively, arrange an appointment through the school office at a convenient time. You can also contact us by email:
