Learning at Home or Homework!
We acknowledge that our pupils work hard all day and often have extra curricular activities after school as well. It is for this reason why we feel it is so important to allow time for children to play, be themselves, have social interactions with friends and family in their time out of school. We simply ask that you support your children’s learning by helping them read as often as they can, practice their weekly spellings and times tables.
We encourage children to read regularly at home. Please sign their reading journals to acknowledge that they have read, either to you or independently. We expect the children to read at least three times a week and have an adult’s signature to acknowledge that. Children who don’t meet this expectation will be expected to make up the time during play times. If finding time for reading is a problem please let us know.
10 Spellings will be given to pupils every Thursday in their Blue books and tested the following week. They are very important! The new curriculum lays great emphasis on correct spelling and children are expected to be able to spell a wide range of words. Have a look on our web page for the government expectations for each year group.
The expectation is that the children will be fluent in their recall of the times tables facts up to 12 x 12 and the corresponding division facts by the time they are in Year 5. Obviously this is easier for some children than others so regular practice is of great benefit. There are lots of different ways of learning, including signing and web-based games. We will put some suggestions on our web page.
If you ever wish to speak to your child’s class teacher, you can usually catch us after school on or alternatively you can make an appointment via the school office to meet with us at another more convenient time.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year and thank you in advance for all the support you give to your child’s learning at home.
Internet Safety. We talk about how important this is at school but you might want to look at some of the activities and information on the website too. https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/
