Year 5

The staff in Year 5 would like to take this opportunity to say hello and a big welcome to the year group. We have lots of exciting things planned for the year and hope your children will share these experiences with you on a regular basis.

The Year 5 Team:

Mr Bragg (5JB)            Mrs Evans & Mrs Scholefield (5SE)

        Supported by:

    Mrs Castree                           Mrs Dance

   One to one support:

Mrs Potter, Miss Hughes and Mrs Morris

In Year 5 this year our topics will be based around Water:
Autumn: Ancient civilisations (main focus – History)
Spring:  Water, water everywhere (main focus - Geography)
Summer: Earth and Beyond (main focus - Science)

Pupils will need to bring into school:

  • A bottle of fresh water every day for the classroom.
  • Swimming kit every Wednesday (until 27.11.19)
  • Yellow Reading Logs with at least 3 signatures in on a Friday

Weekly routines:
P.E. will be on a Monday afternoon, please come to school in full P.E. kit including- a t-shirt, shorts and trainers (for outside).  During the winter months pupils may wish to wear a tracksuit for outdoor sports.

Times Tables
The expectation is that the children will be fluent in their recall of the times tables facts up to 12 x 12 and the  corresponding division facts by the time they are in Year 5. Obviously this is easier for some children than others so regular practice is of great benefit. There are lots of different ways of learning, including signing and web-based games. We will put some suggestions on our web page.

If you ever wish to speak to your child’s class teacher, you can usually catch us after school on or you can make an appointment via the school office to meet with us at another more convenient time.

Alternatively you can email us on:

We are looking forward to a fantastic year and thank you in advance for all the support you give to your child’s learning at home.

Internet Safety. We talk about how important this is at school but you might want to look at some of the activities and information on the website too.
