The staff in Year 5 would like to take this opportunity to say hello and a big welcome to the year group. We have lots of exciting things planned for the year and hope your children will share these experiences with you on a regular basis.

In Year 5 this year our topics will be based around Water:
Autumn: Journey into Space (main focus - Science)
Spring: Water, water everywhere (main focus - Geography)
Summer: Ancient civilisations (main focus – History)
Pupils will need to bring into school:
P.E. will be on a Wednesday afternoon, please come to school in full P.E. kit including- a t-shirt, shorts and trainers (for outside). During the winter months pupils may wish to wear a tracksuit for outdoor sports.
The expectation is that the children will be fluent in their recall of the times tables facts up to 12 x 12 and the corresponding division facts by the time they are in Year 5. Obviously this is easier for some children than others so regular practice is of great benefit. There are lots of different ways of learning, including singing and web-based games like TTRockstars. We will put some suggestions on our web page. We will hold a Times Tables check every Friday.
If you ever wish to speak to your child’s class teacher, please make an appointment via the school office to meet with us at convenient time.
Alternatively you can email us on:
We are looking forward to a fantastic year and thank you in advance for all the support you give to your child’s learning at home.
Bailey is our school dog. He is owned and trained by Mrs Goodman and spends most days relaxing in the classroom. He also does group work and reading sessions with individual children. Research has shown that dogs can have a calming effect on children and can increase their concentration and motivation levels and generally make a positive contribution to a school's wellbeing.
All children at LPS have been taught how to stroke Bailey appropriately and know what to do if they see him around school. The children in Year 5 will have the opportunity to walk Bailey at playtimes throughout the year and to learn some basic tricks.
Internet Safety. We talk about how important this is at school but you might want to look at some of the activities and information on the website too. https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/
